With Christmas fast approaching, the season of goodwill is the perfect time to donate to a cause that is very special to the local community.
Embracing this sentiment is Hemel Hempstead resident, Oti Sanchez, an Amway Business Distributor who has donated £500 on behalf of Amway UK to support the good work and tireless commitment of The Natashas Project, an international non-profit company that raises awareness about the issue of Human Trafficking in modern day slavery through contemporary dance productions, educational and restorative workshops.
The Natashas Project was founded in 2013 and its work tours across all of the UK and abroad. Its aim is to educate people about trafficking and provide the means of support for survivors of trafficking, sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Oti has been a volunteer of the charity for three years, where she offers three full days a week as a volunteer administration assistant, helping the dancers and managing costume care, tour manager, alongside other general duties. For the rest of the week, Oti works part time as a PA and runs her own home base enterprise sharing the Amway Business Opportunity.
Oti was one of many Amway Business Distributors across Europe who was given the opportunity to apply for a monetary donation from Amway, one of the leading family-owned consumer goods companies worldwide that sells high quality products in the categories of beauty, wellness and home care through independent business Distributors.
The 2016 initiative* – ‘One by One Amway Volunteering Campaign’ that is about helping people live better lives – has awarded financial donations to 65 Amway Business Distributors across Europe for their volunteering initiatives this December.
The criterion was to demonstrate the impact and role each Business Distributor plays to improve their own communities.
Despite the tough competition, Oti’s application stood out and General Manager, Andrew Smith from Amway UK Ltd is delighted to see Oti be one of three candidates in the UK rewarded for their selfless charitable efforts.
He says: “Community is a word that is very important to our business. Our Amway Distributors establish strong roots in their own home town and build up their own enterprise by reaching out to individuals seeking our quality products. Individuals like Oti really stand out because they genuinely want to play an active role and make a difference on a local level. Oti carves out time from her busy schedule each week to support those in need and her application really struck a chord with the judging panel.”
Oti’s reflects on her application success: “I really enjoy volunteering and it gives me great pleasure to support such an amazing cause. According to the Global Slavery Index 2013, there are 29.8m people in sex slavery today; the highest ever number. The average age of girls trafficked for sexual exploitation is 13, and in some cases they are as young as 7. The Natashas Project is a wonderful organisation playing its small role in spreading this message in a positive and powerful way.’
Erena Bordon Sanchez, Founding Director of The Natashas Project concludes: “Human trafficking is a global issue involving 161 countries. Our organisation gives an insight into human trafficking, what it involves and why it happens. Restorative dance workshops, which help support survivors in their recovery, are also part of the project. Movement is a powerful tool for healing and it can work on a deep as another means of therapy.”
“We would like to say a big thank you to Oti for her application to Amway because without her, we wouldn’t be a beneficiary of this wonderful donation.”
