With Christmas fast approaching, the season of goodwill is the perfect time to donate to a cause that is very special to the local community.
Embracing this sentiment is Watford resident, Maria Perpétua Siveri, an Amway Business Distributor, aged 51 who has donated £500 on behalf of company Amway to support the good work and tireless commitment of Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers that runs a scheme to support families with practical and emotional support.
Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers was established in 1993 following its collaboration with the local Social Services Teams, the Watford CVS and the first Chair Betty Reed. Since then the scheme has grown year on year and currently has 8 members of staff and over 100 volunteers who support families, work in the charity shop and govern the scheme.
This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way of enabling families to get back on track. Each year over 120 families in Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere receive Home-Start support through a team of volunteers.
Maria Perpétua Siveri has been a volunteer for the last year, offering three hours per week to provide support to families in the home. For the rest of the week, Maria runs her own direct-selling enterprise as an Amway Distributor.
Maria was one of many Amway Distributors across Europe who was given the opportunity to apply for a monetary donation from Amway, one of the leading family-owned consumer goods companies worldwide that sells high quality products in the categories of beauty, wellness and home care through independent distributors.
The 2016 initiative* – ‘One by One Amway Volunteering Campaign’ that is about helping people live better lives – has awarded financial donations to 65 Amway Distributors across Europe for their volunteering initiatives this December.
The criterion was to demonstrate the impact and role each Distributor plays to improve their own communities.
Despite the tough competition, Maria’s application stood out and General Manager, Andrew Smith from Amway UK Ltd is delighted to see Maria be one of three candidates in the UK rewarded for their selfless charitable efforts.
He says: “Community is a word that is very important to our business. Our Amway Distributors establish strong roots in their own home town and build up their own enterprise by reaching out to individuals seeking our quality products. Individuals like Maria really stand out because they genuinely want to play an active role and make a difference on a local level. Maria carves out time from her busy schedule each week to support those in need and her application really struck a chord with the judging panel.”
Maria’s reflects on her application success: “I really enjoy volunteering and it gives me great pleasure to support families with practical and emotional support. It is important to play our small part when we can and for me, Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers really resonated as a cause as it brings much needed support and services to families across the region.”
Emma Power, Scheme Manager from Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers concludes: “Thank you to Maria for her application to Amway because without her, we wouldn’t be a beneficiary of this wonderful donation.
“It costs £600 to support a family for 6 months so this is welcomed news for us. In fact, the £500 donation is now worth £1000 as every donation into the scheme before the 31st Jan 2017 is being
